It is important for us to recognise the stages of autistic burnout so we can put things in place to counteract this and gain the rest and recouperation needed to avoid complete burnout.
Burnout begins with low stress and anxiety before noticing an increased need for rest and becoming aware of the anxiety increasing. Next, sensory sensitivities become more challenging and we find ourselves quicker to dysregulation and becoming dysregulated more frequently.
