The conversation about emotional intensity in autism is often focused around emotions which make us feel bad, such as how we can experience sadness to an extreme extent, which can often be triggered by something that is seemingly small to others. However, the conversation often misses the reverse of that, how we can experience intense joy, which can be triggered by things that are seemingly small to others, such as a satisfying texture. Whilst experiencing emotions to an extreme extent can be very challenging it can also be a wonderful experience.
